How breathwork is taught in Perth

Breathwork in Perth covers two rooms that share a name and almost nothing else.

The first is long-form conscious connected breathing — you lie down for an hour or more, breathe in a continuous circular pattern to music, and a facilitator works the room. Sessions run in studios and hired halls, usually evenings and weekends, sometimes with a sound component. 9D breathwork is this format with a layered audio track; somatic and shamanic sessions are variations on the same idea. They are intense by design — crying, shaking and tingling hands come up often enough that facilitators name them at the start — and everyone screens beforehand for a short list of conditions, pregnancy and cardiovascular history usually among them. Expect a form, and answer it honestly.

The second is short, seated and functional: nasal breathing, slower exhales, breath holds, often paired with cold exposure or an ice bath. These run 30 to 60 minutes and turn up inside gyms, recovery studios and yoga timetables as much as in dedicated breathwork spaces.

Several of the people listed here are independent facilitators rather than fixed venues, so check the listing for where a given class actually runs. Neither style needs prior experience, and both are usually cheaper booked as a course than as a single class. Our guide to breathwork styles explains which room you’re walking into. Related: meditation, yoga and movement.
