Peak Performance Institute — Fitness & Movement in West Leederville

A West Leederville training and recovery room where the cold plunge and infrared sauna sit alongside the gym floor rather than in a separate wellness space. Compression boots, red light and shock wave therapy are on the same menu as pilates and yoga classes, which makes it more of an athlete's setup than a spa. Open from 6.30am on weekdays and Saturday mornings, closed Sundays.

Guided hikes from two hours to five days, most of them in the Perth Hills, Yanchep and on Rottnest, with longer trips to Denmark, Karijini and Esperance. The wellness-leaning walks — 'Wild & Well Perth', 'Zen in the Cave' — pair the trail with time to sit, and more than half of guests come alone. Day hikes are priced from free to $349, multi-day trips from $1,590; cancellation is free with 48 hours' notice, and one per cent of earnings goes to mental-health and land-restoration causes.

How fitness & movement is taught in Perth

The distinction that trips people up here is reformer versus mat. Reformer pilates uses the spring-loaded machine and almost every studio will put you through a foundation class or two before letting you into the general timetable — not upselling, just how the machine works. Mat classes need none of that and cost noticeably less.

Around them sits everything else that moves: barre borrowing from ballet, tai chi and qigong in halls and parks and often the cheapest thing on this page, assisted stretch studios selling 25 or 50-minute one-to-one sessions, and aqua classes at council leisure centres, where you pay per entry rather than per class.

Two notes on money. Private health funds stopped rebating pilates as a natural therapy in 2019 — the exception is when a physiotherapist delivers it as physiotherapy. And personal training is usually sold in blocks, so ask what happens to unused sessions before you buy ten.
