A reiki session runs 45 to 75 minutes. You stay fully clothed and lie on a massage table while the practitioner holds their hands on or just above you, working in positions from head to feet. There’s little conversation during it and usually a few minutes of talk at each end. Pranic healing, crystal work and aura clearing follow a broadly similar shape with different tools and vocabulary. Distance sessions, booked by video or scheduled without you present, are offered by a number of Perth practitioners.
On training and cost: reiki is taught in levels — first degree, second degree, then master — passed on by a teacher rather than examined by a board, so ask who trained the practitioner and when. Nobody in this category is AHPRA-registered and no health fund rebates it, so what you’re quoted is what you pay.
