Gut health in Perth — listings
A team practice on Fitzgerald Street led by principal dietitian Sonya Douglas, working across eating disorders, digestive and women's health, autism and ADHD, chronic conditions, sports nutrition and NDIS support. Open six days with telehealth available, no referral needed, and supermarket tours for people who want the theory made practical.
Ruth Balsiger coaches from an Ayurvedic starting point, working through food, routine and the seasons rather than a fixed plan. Sessions cover gut health, hormonal balance, mindful eating and nervous-system support, and clients get messaging access between appointments. Mostly online with some in-person work around Perth. She also publishes a podcast and a recipe book, and the site carries a dosha quiz as a way in.
A sports-nutrition-leaning dietitian team consulting from Lathlain, Midland and Mt Claremont, including an advanced sports dietitian with more than twenty years in the field. Strong on endurance sport, adolescent athletes and gut health, with hydration testing and supermarket tour groups alongside standard consultations.
Nutrition and lifestyle coaching from Sarah Hopkins, a CHEK holistic health coach at level three with a decade of clinical practice behind her. The work is weighted towards women's cycles and fertility — preconception, IVF preparation, endometriosis and hormonal patterns — with gut health and IBS alongside. Booking is through the site's own calendar.

How nutrition & healthy living is taught in Perth
Two titles, and only one of them means something specific. “Accredited Practising Dietitian” is a credential administered by Dietitians Australia, and it’s the one Medicare care plans and most health funds recognise. “Nutritionist” is not a protected title here — some hold degrees and association membership, some don’t, and the only way to know is to ask.
A first appointment usually runs 45 to 60 minutes and covers what you eat, when, and what your week actually looks like, with shorter reviews after it. Some practitioners work from a GP referral under a chronic disease management plan, which changes what you pay; most also take private bookings without one.
Consultations increasingly run by video, which matters if the practitioner you want is on the wrong side of the river. Ask whether the fee includes the written plan afterwards — practices differ, and it’s the part people assume is free.
Related: nutrition, allied health, natural and alternative therapies.
