A lay Zen community in the Diamond Sangha lineage, sitting zazen every Thursday evening at the Beaconsfield church hall since its founding in 1982 — newcomers arrive at six for orientation. Teachers Mari Rhydwen Roshi and Glenn Wallis Roshi guide the practice, with monthly sits on country, quarterly intensive sitting days and an annual multi-day sesshin. Runs on dana; mats and chairs provided.
Guided meditation in the Karma Kagyu tradition three times a week at Bibra Lake — Monday and Wednesday evenings and Sunday afternoons — each session opening with a short talk before twenty to thirty minutes of guided practice in English. Free to attend, donations voluntary, no experience needed; cushions and chairs provided.
Free meditation classes and workshops across Perth — Inglewood, Mount Claremont and Belmont among the venues — run continuously as a community service in the Sri Chinmoy tradition, with the Perth centre re-established in 1995. Classes are pitched at beginners, working from quietening the mind toward heart-centred meditation. Always free of charge.
Perth's TM centre in Subiaco, where certified teachers Karen Warner and Derek D'Cruz teach the standard Transcendental Meditation course — personalised instruction in the twice-daily twenty-minute technique, preceded by free information sessions in person or online. Course fees are income-based.
Gentle yoga for all ages from Quentin and Bhumi, a husband-and-wife team who are both registered senior teachers with Yoga Australia and have taught in Perth for twenty-eight years between them. Each class opens with gentle warm-ups for the neck, shoulders, hips and lower back, moves into stronger stretches and core work, and finishes with breathing and meditation, in a non-competitive room where you move at your own pace. Classes run in heated community halls in North Beach, Churchlands and South Perth, eight a week across mornings and evenings. A first class is $21, a ten-week term $190 and a casual class $25; a term also includes unlimited Zoom classes. Quentin, trained through the Mindfulness Training Institute Australasia, also teaches the eight-week Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction course ($550), and Bhumi runs sound healing sessions.
Andrew and Servane Cox run weekly sound healing and guided meditation evenings — gongs, Tibetan and crystal bowls, medicine drum and chimes — every Friday night in South Perth, with a second weekly session in Joondalup. Beyond the regulars there are monthly sound immersions in the Yanchep cave, accredited sound-healing training, one-to-one sound therapy and naturopathy.
Christie's home clinic in Booragoon mixes energetic kinesiology, Holy Fire and Karuna reiki, sound healing and ceremonial cacao, with monthly group healing sessions for up to ten. Open Tuesday to Thursday and Saturdays by appointment, with evening slots on request, plus reiki and Access Bars training through the year.
Holly Dutton teaches yoga at City Beach and runs residential retreats in WA's south-west — most recently a four-day Margaret River weekend combining daily yoga, sauna and ice bath sessions, breathwork, meditation, bush walks and a cacao ceremony, fully catered. Shared and single rooms from $1,495. Private retreats for groups of six or more can be arranged at Rottnest, Yallingup, Ferguson Valley and the Swan Valley.
Fremantle's Spanda School runs structured silent retreats built on non-dual meditation, gentle movement and rest — one-day sittings at the school itself, and three- and seven-day residentials at Donnelly Lakes near Pemberton. Two formats serve different depths of practice: a guided version for those newer to silence, and longer unguided sits for experienced meditators. Around a hundred students come through each year, some from interstate and overseas.

14 places here publish a starting price, from $15 to $1,495. The median is $65.
16 of these specialise in meditation classes — it is their main focus. The other 27 list it among other things they offer.
Every listing is hand-checked by Oria Haven. Figures updated 8 October 2026.
Most relevant means practices that specialise in this first, then the ones with the most reviews to go on. A listing that publishes its price, describes itself and names its services gets a small nudge, never more than a quarter of a star, because you can decide on it without ringing. Paid placements are shown once, in their own band, and never move anyone up the list.

The guide
Before you go: meditation classes in Perth
Some of the longest-running meditation rooms in Perth cost nothing to sit in. Buddhist centres and organisations like Brahma Kumaris have run weekly classes here for decades on donation or for free, which makes the usual advice — start cheap, then commit — easier to follow than in most of this directory.
Formats sort into three shapes. Drop-in classes take you as you come, run 45 to 90 minutes, and need no booking at some centres and a form at others. Courses run over four to eight weeks and assume you’ll attend the series. Sitting groups are the quietest option: less instruction, more practice, usually free and usually weekly.
What newcomers ask most: chairs are available almost everywhere, cross-legged on the floor is never compulsory, and arriving ten minutes early matters more than it sounds — most rooms close the door when they start. Traditions vary from Buddhist and Vipassana lineages to secular mindfulness, and the timetable rarely spells out which is which.
Start with your first meditation class or the free sessions around the metro. Related: mindfulness coaching, retreats and day escapes, sound and float.
Your first visit
What to expect at your first meditation classes session
A guided session in a quiet room. Someone talks, you sit, and that is most of it.
- Session length 30–60 min
- Group size 5–30
- Experience needed None
From arrival to heading home
-
Before your visit
- Five to ten minutes early. Latecomers are sometimes not admitted once a session has started, because the door disturbs the room.
- Anything comfortable you can sit still in for half an hour. Layers — sitting still gets cold.
-
During the session
- People arrive quietly and choose a cushion or a chair. Chairs are always available and using one is not a lesser option.
- A short introduction, often a few words on what the session will involve.
- The guide talks you through it — attention on the breath, the body, or a repeated phrase, depending on the tradition.
- Your mind will wander constantly. Noticing that and coming back is the practice, not a failure at it.
- A few minutes at the end to sit before anyone speaks or moves.

How does Oria Haven choose which practices to list?
We build the directory ourselves rather than taking paid submissions, so a practice appears because it exists and serves Perth — not because it paid. Practices can claim their listing for nothing and keep it accurate, photos included. Paid plans add booking links, offers and visitor stats. We never take a cut of bookings, and enquiries go straight to the practice.
