The guide
Acupuncturists in Australia are registered with AHPRA through the Chinese Medicine Board, the same national register that covers doctors and physiotherapists, and any practitioner listed here can be looked up by name. That registration is the useful fact about the whole category: it is what separates acupuncture from most of the other things in this directory, and it is why many health-fund extras policies still cover it.
A session runs forty-five minutes to an hour, the first one longer because it starts with questions. You lie on a treatment table, the needles are fine, single-use and sterile, and the part people do not expect is that most of the session is spent lying still with them in — twenty minutes or so, in a quiet room, often with the lights down. Perth clinics commonly offer cupping and Chinese herbal medicine under the same roof, and some pair acupuncture with remedial massage.
Wear something loose enough to roll above the knee and the elbow, eat something beforehand, and allow a little more time than the booking says. If your fund matters to you, ask the clinic for its provider number when you book rather than at the counter.
