Excellent instructors. Good venues. A range of courses means that there is one to suit everyone (including people with leg or back injuries). Friendly participants.

Sam has excellent teaching skills and is always working on new ways to convey information and learning for his students. Too many teachers are good at the subject but can't convey the knowledge. Sam is not like that. Highly recommended for anyone interested in seeing what Tai Chi is about.

Discovering tai chi at the Perth Tai Chi Academy is one of the best discoveries I've ever made. It's helped me to improve my fitness and to grow as a person. And Sam is a gifted teacher who can help you no matter what your mobility or starting skill level.

I always wanted to learn Tai Chi in Perth for a long time as I learned Japanese martial arts (Aikido and Kyudo) when I was a child. However, I could not find a Tai Chi class that time. I found that the City of Perth’s Tai Chi lessons in Northbridge Piazza with Sam in 2013 and I gave it a try. I really enjoyed Sam’s lessons and I wanted to take more lessons. I noticed that Tai Chi does not only keep me fit but also helps me to maintain my stress level better. It is nice to meet new people and learn Tai Chi together.

Short version: high quality, affordable, well-structured classes. Longer version: I have been training with Perth Tai Chi academy for four and a half years, initially starting with their 'Tai Chill' exercise class but then moving into learning beginner forms including Chen, Wu, Yang, Wu-Hao and Sun styles. I've now moved into the Intermediate class where I've been working on 32 step sword form, my favourite so far. I have been guided from being a complete beginner knowing nothing at all about Tai Chi, to someone who is now able to recognise and demonstrate different styles. The learning pathway is structured to give you a solid foundation in the basics which can be applied to any style of tai chi. Over time, after trying a variety of barehand and weapon styles, students are guided into choosing a style they will specialise in at an advanced level, which is where I'm currently heading. Classes are extremely good value for money, you will also find they are a much more challenging workout than you might expect. My balance and control over my movement has greatly improved through practicing tai chi. I look to many more years learning with the Academy and strengthening my abilities with both barehand and weapon routines.
