How these ratings work

These bars are a guide, not a score of this business. Each starts from Oria Haven’s profile of Breathwork as a kind of session, then is adjusted by facts stored on this listing: its price band, its group size and whether it welcomes beginners.

Nobody has rated this particular venue in person, and reviews are not fed in. Where we have no fact about this listing behind a bar — for example how many people share the room — we leave that bar out rather than guess.

They describe the room — how quiet, how physical, how many people — never what a session is supposed to do for you.

Highly recommend the Energetics Institute. Helena has been a gentle, caring guide in a period of change through mid-life and perimenopause. Her approach has helped me reflect on issues that were not easy for me to access or explore intellectually or through previous talking therapies. Helena's support, knowledge, recommendations and exercises have helped me learn more deeply and understand myself better. Thank you Helena.

The guy seemed pretty impressive with what he knew with evidence based healing and spiritual teachings. He said he can work with people to really express their inner rage or violence or distress (what id come for) but first needs to stableise people (which is vital and standard). I didnt expect any therapist to explore strong emotions until there is evidence of grounding stablising and a strong theraputic relationship. And taking time build that together is fine. But he said he just wanted me to say and concemplate the affirmation "i am safe here just as i am right now" for a month before he did the next level of stablising. Which is a standard but limited intervention. I said id done alot of talk therapy, visualisation and positive self talk and it hadnt helped. He said then maybe i wasnt ready. I said that positions him as the only way and superior when other people might just need different things. He said i had ego about what i had done and thay he had no attachment to weather i came back or not. I went to leave before the session was even over and he stood up pretty quick to make sure i payed his 250$. Not a good experience talking to someone that responds with "if people dont start to stableise from this one affirmation they arent ready to heal and if anyone disagrees they have ego and he doesnt care because hes not attached. Literally words he said to me. Id say hed be amazing for the people he can help, but put defensiveness and blame on the people he cant and defensive about his own limitations. If hes offended by this he can tell himself the same mantra for a month until hes at peace with it too.

Hi, my marriage of nearly 50 years fell apart two years ago. After seeing two other therapists to support my immediate grief needs, I found I needed more to move forward with life. I had found wonderful support with two previous “energetic type” therapists, but were no longer available, which lead me to Helena. She has been absolutely wonderful in helping me deal with the pain and difficulties of the separation fall out. But importantly she also helped me understand the subtleties and spiritual aspects (and the joy) of relating to the significant female people in my life. What a gift! Thank you Helena!

Meditation cushionsRetrospec Sedona Zafu Meditation CushionRetrospec

A crescent zafu filled with buckwheat hulls, with a washable cotton cover and a carry handle. Sits you a little higher than the floor so the knees drop and the back stays upright.

Good for beginners

Goes well with Meditation classes

Why we picked it

The thing most people are missing when they say they cannot sit still is a cushion of the right height. A crescent shape gives the thighs somewhere to go, and buckwheat can be added or taken out until it is yours. It is the first thing we would put in a meditation corner.

Meditation cushionsHugger Mugger Standard Yoga BolsterHugger Mugger

A rectangular bolster with a firm core and a soft surface, handmade in the USA. The shape used in restorative and yin classes.

Everyday use

Goes well with Meditation classes Yoga

Why we picked it

Restorative yoga is mostly the art of being held up by the right prop, and a bolster is the prop. Hugger Mugger's has been the studio standard for decades because the core does not go soft. Under the knees, along the spine, or across the lap for a long sit.

Why we picked it

The one meditation book we would hand to someone who has never sat down to meditate. The chapters are two or three pages each, secular in tone, and you can open it anywhere. Thirty years on it is still the plainest introduction there is.
