Yoga in Mount Hawthorn — listings

Open House Yoga — Meditation classes in Bayswater

A Milne Street studio that runs a Mysore room alongside a general timetable, which is less common in Perth than the number of yoga studios would suggest. Ashtanga Led covers the half primary series in seventy-five minutes and the studio asks you to do its Ashtanga Foundations course first. The rest of the week is softer — Mellow, Linger Longer, Dynamic Flow, and Yin by candlelight.

Horizon Yoga — Sound & float in Cottesloe
4.7 (26 · Google)

Two rooms on the coast — Railway Street in Cottesloe and a second inside the Swanbourne Surf Club — running more than thirty classes a week between them. The timetable is unusually wide for a studio this size: vinyasa and power vinyasa at one end, hatha flow and slow flow in the middle, and yin restorative, yin and yang, and myofascial release at the other. Sound healing runs as its own session and paired with yin.

Small Blessings Yoga — Women's, Men's & Family Wellness in Beaconsfield

Jai Ram teaches pregnancy and postnatal yoga on South Street and very little else — a studio built around one stretch of life rather than a timetable that happens to include a prenatal slot. Courses run in ten-week cycles following school terms, with a six-week intensive inside them, and Mama Baba classes carry on afterwards with the baby in the room.

Essence Pilates — Fitness & Movement in South Perth
4.9 (52 · Google)

A Hardy Street studio running barre alongside reformer and matwork, which is less common than it sounds — most Perth barre classes sit in gyms rather than Pilates studios. The studio is explicit that no dance background is expected; its own test is whether you can hold a barre. Yoga and private sessions run on the same timetable.

Hot For Yoga — Yoga in Jandakot
5.0 (56 · Google)

A Bikram studio south of the river, running the original set sequence in a heated room. The studio makes a point of the practice being for people who do not think of themselves as yoga people — its own words are that you do not need to be fit, or young, or a devotee — and first-timers are given mat and towel hire at no cost. An introductory pass covers twenty-five days of unlimited classes.

Flow Hot Yoga & Pilates — Fitness & Movement in Wangara

A northern-suburbs studio running the Bikram sequence — twenty-six postures in front of a mirror at 38 degrees — alongside a heated vinyasa flow, reformer Pilates and unheated yin. Beginners' yoga runs as its own class rather than as an afterthought, and the studio is explicit that flexibility, strength and balance are not entry requirements.

COMO Shambhala Urban Escape — Beauty & Self-Care in Perth CBD

The spa inside COMO The Treasury on Cathedral Avenue, open to day visitors as well as hotel guests: four treatment rooms (one a double), a 20-metre heated indoor pool, sauna and a wellness lounge, and a rooftop fitness centre. Massage and holistic treatments with COMO Shambhala's own products, private yoga and pilates, and wellness packages. Open 10am to 6pm every day; bookings through the spa's online portal.

Bodyscape Yoga & Wellness Spa — Beauty & Self-Care in Nedlands

A yoga studio on Stirling Highway, Nedlands, with a wellness spa attached. The spa menu runs signature and pregnancy massage from $145 for the hour, an iKOU facial at $160, iKOU body scrubs and rituals from $140, a 45-minute infrared sauna at $50, and wellness consultations; upstairs the studio teaches vinyasa, yin, prenatal and foundation classes, with private sessions, corporate programs, workshops and retreats. Open seven days around class and appointment times.

Frieda Yoga & Hiking — Fitness & Movement in Cottesloe

Frieda runs yin and vinyasa classes in Claremont and Cottesloe and takes the practice into the bush: yoga hikes — 'yikes' — such as a four-kilometre walk at Bells Rapids followed by a slow-flow class and afternoon tea, and a hike to the Golden View lookout above Mundaring Weir, forty-five minutes east of the city. Longer retreats run in Balingup and overseas. Private one-to-one classes and corporate yoga and pilates round out the calendar.

Awakened Wellness Retreats — Breathwork in Two Rocks

Mandy Francisty runs day retreats around Perth and weekend retreats further afield — the next in Pemberton — built from slow-flow and restorative yoga, yoga nidra, meditation, breathwork, journaling and a vegan, gluten-free lunch, each day on a different theme. Based in Two Rocks, where there is venue hire, a sauna and ice bath and weekly yoga, she is a yoga and pilates teacher, breathwork practitioner, NLP and EFT therapist and personal trainer, and takes private bookings for hens, birthdays and teams.

How yoga is taught in Perth

The style name on the timetable tells you more about the next hour than any photo on the studio’s website.

Vinyasa moves continuously and warms you up; hatha holds postures longer and talks you through them; yin puts you on the floor with props for minutes at a time; restorative and nidra classes barely move at all. Hot classes run in a heated room, which changes what you bring rather than what you do. Studios that run a dedicated beginners’ course — four to six weeks, same people each week — are worth finding if the drop-in timetable looks impenetrable.

On practicalities: most studios lend mats, intro offers for new students are close to universal and usually the cheapest way to try three or four rooms, and class passes only beat casual rates if you actually go. Pregnancy classes are booked separately and most teachers ask which trimester you’re in.
